The Philadelphia Eagles are heading into Week 18 with a whopping 23 players on their injury report.
Having already clinched the NFC East and No. 2 playoff seed, the Eagles seem to be taking a strategic approach by giving key players some much-needed rest for their game against the New York Giants.
A.J. Brown (knee/rest), DeVonta Smith (wrist/rest) and Kenny Pickett (ribs) are listed as doubtful after sitting out practice.
Despite the number of players listed, only one has been ruled out: Jalen Hurts (concussion/left finger).

A significant group of Eagles was limited at practice, including Saquon Barkley, Zack Baun, Mekhi Becton, Reed Blankenship, Jalen Carter, Cooper DeJean, Landon Dickerson, C.J. Gardner-Johnson, Lane Johnson, Cam Jurgens, Jordan Mailata, Quinyon Mitchell, Darius Slay, Nolan Smith and Josh Sweat.
Seven of those players are doubtful, though their limited participation appears to be more about rest than injury.
Even some players who managed full practice sessions aren’t in the clear yet.
Linebacker Nakobe Dean (abdomen, doubtful) and running back Will Shipley (concussion, questionable) are listed despite participating fully in practice.
Philadelphia’s careful handling of its roster makes perfect sense.
With their playoff position secure, the team is prioritizing player health over the final regular-season game.
The Eagles’ fan base will be watching closely to see how this rest-first strategy impacts their playoff preparations and the team’s pursuit of another Super Bowl title.
