While many teams don’t have anything left to play for in Week 18 of the 2024 NFL season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are highly motivated to earn a win.
The Buccaneers can clinch the NFC South with a victory against the New Orleans Saints and claim a playoff spot.
Fortunately, Tampa Bay should be able to wrap up its division as New Orleans will be missing several key starters, including quarterback Derek Carr.
The Buccaneers are set up to make the postseason for a fifth consecutive year, and they’ve done it behind a strong offense piloted by Baker Mayfield.
Meanwhile, the defense has done its part despite some inconsistent showings along the way.
Unfortunately, it appears one defensive back was recently involved in an auto accident and will miss the game.
“Jordan Whitehead was involved in an auto accident this morning on his way to our practice facility. Due to injuries sustained in the accident, he will not play in Sunday’s game against the New Orleans Saints and has been placed on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury (NFI) list. We have signed Ryan Neal from our practice squad to the 53-man roster,” the Buccaneers announced, via NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport.

This is a sad and scary situation as Whitehead could’ve been seriously injured, so his status moving forward will be worth monitoring.
He has been solid in his second stint with the Buccaneers, so hopefully he can recover quickly.
