The Chicago Bears are in need of some big changes after squandering a solid start to the 2024 NFL season, leading to the firing of head coach Matt Eberflus, the first time in franchise history they made a coaching change during a season.
Interim head coach Thomas Brown hasn’t won a game, leading most to believe there is little chance he gets any consideration to be the permanent replacement.
With that in mind, the Bears reportedly are looking into other possible candidates.
“The Bears are looking for a ‘leader of men’ for their opening at HC, and GM Ryan Poles has been doing ‘serious homework’ on [Miami] Dolphins DC Anthony Weaver, per Dianna Russini,” JPAFootball wrote on X.

Under Weaver, the Dolphins’ defense is tied for eighth in the NFL in points per game allowed while also ranking third in the league in yards allowed.
Miami got off to a 2-6 start in part due to the absence of injured quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, but entering Week 18, the Dolphins still have a chance to make the playoffs.
The defense is the main reason the team was able to hold it together, and it could result in a promotion for Weaver.
Chicago’s defense hasn’t been the issue this season, and it would be helpful if the next head coach could get some more consistency out of the offense.
The Bears are 29th in scoring, so while it’s important for them to hire a “leader of men,” they also need someone who can get the offense going.
